The PMD222 is a mono, three head (erase, record, and play), field recorder, fully specified to ensure professional results in the most demanding applications. The unit is small and lightweight and easily portable with a shoulder strap and optional carrying case. The tape transport is built to the highest standards of engineering and features a balanced dual flywheel to maintain a constant tape speed when on the move.

The low power circuits of the PMD222 give up to 5 1/2 hours recording on one set of alkaline batteries or 4 hours with rechargeable cells. A heavy duty XLR mic input connector, large VU meter with peak level LED, integrated condenser mic and monitor speaker are all featured.

There are switchable, manual or automatic level settings on the PMD222 including either optional limiter overload protection or Automatic Level Control, while Ambient Noise Control filtering provides higher intelligibility of speech frequencies with respect to background noise levels. Off- tape monitoring, in Record mode, cue / review functions, memory rewind, and an accurate Pause function enable proper monitoring, transfer and editing of recordings.
